Leakage Monitor
One list of every dollar you did the work for and didn't bill.
Momentum's leakage monitor scans billing, shipping, receiving and packaging activity for places where work happened but revenue didn't follow — below-cost boxes, unbilled packaging, receiving that was never logged, duplicate labels and carrier adjustments — and puts them in one dollar-valued list to recover or consciously accept.

The problem
What is margin leakage in a 3PL?
Leakage is revenue you earned but never invoiced, or cost you absorbed without meaning to. In a 3PL it rarely shows up as one big miss: it's a receiving job nobody logged, a box sold for less than it cost, a second label printed after a repack, a shipping line passed through at cost. Each one is small. Together they decide whether a month was good or flat.
- Receiving work done but never logged or billed
- Packaging sold below loaded cost — or not billed at all
- Shipping passed through with no margin
- Two live labels on one package
How it works
How does Momentum find leakage?
- 1
Start from what happened, not what was billed
A billing report tells you what you invoiced. The leakage monitor starts from operational activity — POs received, boxes used, labels printed — and looks for revenue that should exist and doesn't.
- 2
Check every category
Unlogged receiving (a PO arrived in the WMS, but no dock count and no receiving charge exist near that date), below-cost and unpriced packaging, pass-through shipping, duplicate labels and carrier adjustments from reconciliation.
- 3
Value it in dollars, by client
Each item carries a dollar amount and a client, so the list sorts itself by what's worth chasing first.
- 4
Recover or accept on purpose
Bill it, fix the rate card, or table a known pattern — say, a client whose shipping you deliberately pass through. Tabled items move to an acknowledged bucket so the live list stays actionable, and nothing disappears silently.
Capabilities
What's in Margin Leakage Monitor
What each piece does, in plain terms.
| Capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Unlogged receiving detection | POs received in the WMS with no floor count and no receiving charge nearby. |
| Below-cost packaging | Boxes and supplies billed under their loaded cost, valued in real dollars lost. |
| Unbilled packaging | Cartons and dimensions used on orders but never priced. |
| Pass-through shipping | Shipping billed at carrier cost with zero margin, by client. |
| Duplicate-label anomalies | More than one non-voided label on the same package, for finance to confirm or void. |
| Acknowledged patterns | Table a recurring pattern by key so it stops cluttering the list — visibly, not silently. |
What changes
A weekly recovery list
One place to see what's leaking, worth how much, from which client.
Fixes at the source
Recurring leaks point to the rate card or process that needs changing.
Deliberate trade-offs
Margin you give away becomes a decision on record, not an accident.

FAQ
Margin Leakage Monitor: common questions
How is leakage monitoring different from a billing report?
A billing report shows what you billed. The leakage monitor shows what you didn't — it starts from operational activity and looks for missing or under-priced revenue.
Can I ignore a leak on purpose?
Yes. Table a recurring pattern and it moves to an acknowledged bucket with its dollar value still visible, so the trade-off stays on the record while the live list stays short.
Does leakage monitoring require Momentum billing?
Most signals are computed from Momentum's draft invoices, so they appear for each client once its billing runs in Momentum. Unlogged receiving and duplicate labels come from WMS data directly.
